Conor McGregor — who made his professional boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather back in 2017 —recently teased that his mixed martial arts (MMA) return could potentially be delayed even longer after considering another foray into the Sweet Science.
Meanwhile, there are several MMA fighters who didn’t care for those potential plans, including Justin Gaethje, who has just about had enough of McGregor’s indecisiveness when it comes to his combat sports future.
“Do it the right way pussy. Stop shitting on the integrity of the sport,” said Justin. “You want @TeamKhabib again you fight me, or the winner of Cowboy and Ferguson or get the fuck out of here and enjoy all that money.”
Of course, the timing and aiming of Gaethje’s response to a three-day old tweet is perhaps not coincidental, coming on the heels of UFC President Dana White revealing that “Notorious” could very well get a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov if “The Eagle” defeats Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 on Sept. 7, 2019.
If that is indeed McGregor’s comeback fight, it would mean that he gets an instant title shot and a chance at revenge, as his last fight saw him getting choked out by Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in Oct. 2018. So you can understand Gaethje’s frustrations, as he is coming off two first round knockout victories.
“The Highlight” has been lobbying for a showdown against the fiery Irishman, but it seems it could be something that isn’t on deck in the immediate future. Unless, of course, his manager Ali Abdelaziz— who just locked down a big-money contract for Khabib — can work his magic and make the fight a reality.
After all, UFC 242 is still four months away.
