Bellator 185: “Mousasi vs. Shlemenko” takes place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on Oct. 20, 2017, featuring a Spike TV-televised main event between Strikeforce and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran Gegard Mousasi (42-6-2) in his promotional debut, looking to pick up his sixth straight win against Alexander “Storm” Shlemenko (56-9, 1 NC).
Originally Bellator had also planned to have former Light Heavyweight champion Liam McGeary (12-2) face perennial Bellator contender and former Strikeforce champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal (21-6, 1 NC) in another exciting bout for Spike TV. However, because of an undisclosed injury, King Mo was forced to withdraw from the card this week.
The hunt for a replacement was on. And that search has already ended.
MMA Junkie revealed that Bellator and UFC veteran Robert “Bubba” McDaniel (28-10) has agreed to take the short notice fight. McDaniel has won two straight fights and five out of his last six overall, including a technical knockout win at Bellator 146 in Oklahoma in 2015. McDaniel definitely holds an experience edge over McGeary with over twice as many professional fights on his record, but he has to contend with a 6’6” behemoth looking to work his way back to title contention after tapping out for the first time to Linton Vassell earlier this year.
