Glover Teixeira was so eager to get a fight in order to show his newly improved mindset, he didn’t even bother asking who he was fighting when he accepted to take on Rashad Evans at UFC on FOX 19.
Glover Teixeira will take on Rashad Evans on short notice in a clash of veteran light heavyweights on April 16 when Shogun Rua had to pull out of the bout due to an injury. In fact, Teixeira was so excited to get a fight, he accepted it before even finding out who his opponent was going to be.
“I keep myself on weight. Ever since my loss to Phil Davis, I changed my entire training camp and diet,” Teixeira told Portal do Vale Tudo. “I’m always light, on weight and ready. Semi-ready, actually. Because nobody trains and is always ready without a fight coming up, no fighter does that. Anyone who does that is not in the UFC. We have to keep ourselves at 70% the whole year, anything more than that will get us hurt. I was training, I was actually helping Caio Magalhaes who will fight on the same day. When they called me, I accepted right away. I didn’t even ask who my opponent was. Rashad is a former champion and very well rounded. You must be sharp to fight any of the top guys. I’m prepared to show I can take any of them and fight for a title again.”
Glover Teixeira is currently riding a two-fight winning streak with a TKO win over Patrick Cummins and a submission victory over Ovince Saint Preux. He will take on Rashad Evans on UFC on Fox 19’s co-main event on April 16. The card will be headlined by a lightweight title eliminator between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.
