Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo faced each other in a Flyweight clash tonight (Sat., Feb. 29, 2020) at UFC Fight Night 169, which took place inside Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. Following a back-and-forth bout, Figueiredo ended things in the second with a pair of huge right hands.
Benavidez scores an early left overhand. Figueiredo catches a kick and tries to convert it into a takedown, but Benavidez slips out the back door. Figueiredo attacks an armbar, but Benavidez slips away and lands a big hook on the break. Benavidez targets the body with punches, kicks the calf. Overhand right scores for Benavidez. Figueiredo lands a jab, eats a low kick. Body-head combination lands for Benavidez. Figueiredo stalks, lands a jab. Figueiredo lands a right hand. Benavidez lands again over the top, but Figueiredo stuffed his takedown attempt. Combination punctuated by a big right hand lands for Benavidez, who then kicks the calf. Benavidez scores on the break of the clinch. Left hook-cross lands for Benavidez. A left hand scores for Benavidez, then a calf kick. Big body shots scores for Figueiredo. Benavidez lands another two-punch combination, takes a return shot from the Brazilian.
Benavidez lands first with a low kick to start the second. Benavidez glances his foe with two strikes, eats a heavy counter shot. Another hard right scores for Figueiredo. Lead left hand scores for Benavidez. Two body shots and a low kick land for “Beefcake.” Figueiredo advances, landing a huge right to the body then another direct to the skull.
Benavidez goes down, and the fight is over.
Result: Deiveson Figueiredo defeats Joseph Benavidez via second-round knockout
