“The Future” is heading Back to the Future

Surging Irish Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight contender, Ian Garry, takes on (almost) 170-pound title challenger, Shavkat Rakhmonov, this weekend (Sat., Dec. 7, 2024) in the co-main event of UFC 310, which will take place inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The fight between “Garry vs. Rakhmonov” is scheduled for five, five-minute rounds to determine who will fight injured reigning roost-ruler, Belal Muhammad next; however, Garry plans to finish “Nomad” fast and early.

“Here is my ideal scenario,” Garry told Ariel Helwani. “I go out there Dec. 7 and I take out Shavkat early. I come out of there unscathed and uninjured. I get on the mic and say, ‘Hey, I could wait until next year when Belal Muhammad is back. Or… Dana [White], Hunter [Campbell], UFC, I could walk my ass all the way down to Florida, and I could beat the bollocks out of Colby Covington for 25 minutes, and I can prove how good I am next week.’

“I would love to beat Shavkat, and the following week fight in the main event in Tampa and bury Colby Covington and leave him dead and done in the Octagon, never to be seen again,” Garry concluded.

Yes, he’s still seeking cage justice.

To be fair, it was a nice promo from the Irish fighter, but two “real world” things are preventing it.

First, Garry and a quick finish go together like peanut butter and mayonnaise. For all his bluster, Garry has had jusy two first round finishes inside the Octagon: Daniel Rodriguez (watch here) and Jordan Williams. The remainder of his fights have gone the distance. And he’s fighting a guy (Rakhmonov) who has never been finished.

He’s also never lost (and never seen the judges).

Second, if by some miracle he goes out there and pulls a Jorge Masvidal flying knee (like this), Dana White and Co. will not pull Joaquin Buckley out of UFC Tampa’s main event on seven days notice.

Blah, blah, blah …
