The former MMA fighter continues to use social media to spread disinformation and controversy.
Gina Carano is once again facing a torrent of backlash following her latest controversial comments on social media.
Carano, who plays Cara Dune in Disney’s hit show The Mandalorian, posted a story on Instagram that seemingly compared living as a conservative in Biden’s America to the holocaust in Nazi Germany.
“Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews,” read the IG story reposted by Carano. “How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”
In the wake of Carano’s anti-Semitic post, #FireGinaCarano is once again trending on Twitter, with thousands demanding that Disney take action against the former MMA fighter.
“#FireGinaCarano for believing racism isn’t real, for mocking trans pronouns, for spreading covid conspiracy theories, for supporting the white house insurrection, for being anti-mask, for posting anti-semitic pics and comparing being a trumper to being Jewish during the holocaust,” one user posted on Twitter.
This is not the first time that Carano has faced backlash for her tweets. The hashtag #FireGinaCarano wastrending on social media in November 2020 after Carano posted a series of anti-mask memes and retweeting posts denying the outcome of the presidential election. In the past, she has posted about QAnon, the far-right conspiracy theory that claims a cabal of elite pedophiles made up of Hollywood actors, Democrats, and other high-ranking officials is behind a global child sex-trafficking ring. The group asserts that Trump is currently fighting the cabal and is planning a day of reckoning known as “The Storm.” The Federal Bureau of Investigation has labeled the movement a “potential domestic terror threat.”
Several months ago, Carano added “boop/bop/beep” to her Twitter name in a poor attempt to mock the use of preferred gender pronouns. Preferred gender pronouns are those pronouns that an individual prefers other people use when referring to them. The most common gender pronouns are “he, him, his” and “she, her, hers,” while transgender and gender nonconforming people may prefer to use pronouns that better reflect their identity, such as “they, them, theirs.”
Given Carano’s social media stances, Lucasfilm has reportedly considered removing her from the Mandalorian cast in order to limit bad publicity. The actress reportedly apologized to Disney in private conversations with the network. However, Carano has made no attempt to publicly apologize for her slew of controversies.
It is worth noting that Carano has become a martyr among far-right groups such as the QAnon conspiracy movement, who believe the backlash against her foreshadows the United States’ pivot towards communism.
“Look up Gina Carano, her livelihood and safety is threatened because she exercised her First Amendment Right as an American citizen,” one believer wrote on a prominent QAnon Telegram channel. “This is a strategy straight out of a Communist handbook.”
