Fitch on draw with MacDonald: ‘There’s a good chance that was my last fight’

Jon Fitch contemplates retirement following his exit from Bellator’s welterweight tournament.

42 fight MMA veteran Jon Fitch is thinking of calling it a career following his draw at Bellator 220.

Fitch, who fought to a majority draw against reigning Bellator welterweight champion Rory MacDonald at SAP Center in San Jose, California on Saturday, told reporters at a post-fight media scrum that Bellator 220 may very well have been the last time we saw him compete as a mixed martial artist.

“I was having a lot of medical issues and a bad brain scan…” Fitch said, per BJPenn.com’s Drake Riggs. “And if I lost that fight [with Jake Shields] I was done and that was it for me. Well, I won so I kept going and made the same promise with myself so I’m at a position with myself now that I didn’t lose technically. And I don’t know if I should keep that promise to myself or not. But there’s a good chance that this was my last fight. But I didn’t lose, so if I get offered the Neiman Gracie fight… It’s gonna be hard to turn down an opportunity at one million dollars and another chance to win a belt… So we’ll see.”

Despite not actually losing to ‘The Red King,’ Fitch was knocked out of the Bellator welterweight grand prix due to MacDonald’s status as champion. MacDonald, a former UFC title challenger, will advance to the next stage of the tournament and take on Neiman Gracie at Bellator 222 on June 14. The event will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York, and features a headlining bout between Chael Sonnen and Lyoto Machida.
