Floyd Mayweather to Conor McGregor: Speak to your UFC ‘bosses’ and make this happen

“Once Conor McGregor speaks to the UFC and his bosses, then we can make it happen because we all know that Floyd Mayweather is his own boss.”

Floyd Mayweather is still very interested in a boxing showdown against UFC star Conor McGregor.

The undefeated, 49-0 boxer celebrated his 40th birthday on Thursday and told Showtime’s Steve Farhood the current situation with McGregor.

Mayweather gave credit to the Irishman, praising his boxing skills and calling him a ‘hell of a fighter’.

“I’m here, let’s make it happen,” Mayweather said, per Peter Gilbert of Sky Sports.” Every time McGregor goes out there and competes and wins, he does it standing up. When Conor McGregor did lose, he lost on the ground. He didn’t lose standing up so here a hell of a fighter.”

‘Money’ was also surprisingly complimentary of McGregor’s heart and tenacity, but slipped in a subtle dig at ‘The Notorious’s’ relationship with the UFC and bragged about how Mayweather is his own boss.

“He’s a very, very tough competitor and he has a will to win,” the boxing great continued. “Also, the UFC gloves are no different to boxing gloves, they just a little bit smaller. But if a guy got power, he got power and Conor McGregor got power.”

“We already know what my number is. My number is there and he has to get his thing in order with his team. Once Conor McGregor speaks to the UFC and his bosses, then we can make it happen because we all know that Floyd Mayweather is his own boss.”

While Mayweather vs. McGregor was initially dismissed and ridiculed by the combat sports community, it’s becoming increasingly likely that the two fighters will square off in the boxing ring – possibly on a UFC pay-per-view.

Mayweather, who retired from the boxing world in 2015 after cruising to a decision over Andre Berto, is eager for the bout to come together.

“We got Showtime PPV, Mayweather Promotions – which is the past, the present and the future of sports entertainment so let’s make the fight happen.”
