After the massive success of Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr, we think 2021 may be the year of the celebrity boxing freakshow.

It was only a matter of time before this Paul brothers boxing thing went too far. When either Jake or Logan would end up stepping into the ring against a much more serious opponent than the YouTubers and non-combat sports athletes they’ve faced thus far. Now may be that time.

In a pretty serious looking post on his Instagram account, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather put up a video claiming he’ll face the elder Paul, Logan Paul, in an exhibition match on February 20th, 2021.

“Super Exhibition Feb. 20, 2021 !!!!” Mayweather wrote. “Early Bird Special On Sale NOW!!!! @fanmio. More Details Soon. Link in BIO.”

And yep, following the FanMio links takes you to a FanMio Boxing page where folks can pre-order the bout for $24.99. The bout has an interesting pricing scheme: after 1 million PPVs sold, the price goes up to $39.99. As of December 29th, the price is $59.99. And if you wait til the week of the fight, be prepared to shell out $69.99.

With the ordering page functional as far as I was willing to go without actually buying this thing, it certainly seems like this is a done deal. Which makes you wonder: what the hell are we about to watch? Well, the only thing for sure is we’re going to see Mayweather and Paul make a lot of money.

Will Logan Paul’s fans pay to see him get pieced up by one of the best fighters ever? Does he have enough highly engaged haters to propel this into Tyson vs. Jones Jr. territory? Maybe they won’t hit the 1 million at $25 a pop mark, but maybe they will.

As far as how hard this ‘exhibition’ will go, Floyd Mayweather certainly didn’t hold back in his exhibition against kickboxer Tenshin on New Years Eve 2018.

And not like it’d matter, but this isn’t even the good Paul boxing. At least the younger Jake Paul is hot off a big KO win over NBA star Nate Robinson. Logan holds a draw and a split decision loss over fellow YouTube influencer KSI.

With news that Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. sold 1.6 million plus PPVs, we imagine we’re about to see way more stuff like this. Tyson promoter Triller just announced a ‘Fight Club’ series with Snoop Dogg that will feature celebrity boxing matches, and this is just another extension of that quest for cash. So strap in and get ready, because this is just the beginning.
