UFC featherweight Diego Brandao was released from the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. late Saturday after being arrested on Friday for allegedly hitting a strip club employee in the face with a gun, according to online records.
Brandao is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault and willful assault with a deadly weapon, per online records. The Brazilian’s bail was set at $15,000. He was released on Saturday night between the times of 9:30pm and 11:59pm local time.
On Thursday, Brandao was allegedly present at a local strip club and after briefly leaving, was not allowed to reenter “due to his behavior,” per police. Brandao allegedly attempted to reenter the club forcefully by throwing punches. He left the scene and returned, once again, this time with a gun, according to a criminal complaint filed in Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court. Brandao charged an employee of the strip club outside the building and hit him in the face with the weapon, according to the complaint.
Brandao was arrested the following day at 5:30pm local time and he was booked into the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center at 9:30pm local time. It should be noted that he was booked into the jail under the name “Diego Brandoa.” A court date has not been set at this time.
UFC officials have yet to release a statement on Brandao’s arrest and release.
Brandao (20-11) last competed in the Octagon earlier this year against Brian Ortega at UFC 195. The Brazilian lost the fight via third-round submission. Prior to that, the 28-year old and Jackson-Wink MMA fighter picked up consecutive TKO wins over Katsunori Kikuno and Jimy Hettes.
Following the January loss, Brandao tested positive for a marijuana metabolite and is currently temporarily suspended with the Nevada State Athletic Commission. His disciplinary hearing is currently scheduled for Tuesday’s meeting. It is unknown at this time whether or not Brandao’s hearing will be pulled from the schedule due to his arrest.
