Following news of Joe Silva’s departure, UFC hires Mick Maynard as new matchmaker

Mick Maynard has been hired by the UFC as its new vice president of talent relations and matchmaker.

After weeks of rumblings, it’s official: the UFC has hired Mick Maynard as its new matchmaker, following the news of Joe Silva’s departure.

UFC officials confirmed the hiring Tuesday afternoon, following an initial report from FloSports’ Jeremy Botter.

Maynard will be the UFC Vice President of Talent Relations, Sean Shelby’s old role. Shelby has been promoted to Silva’s position of Senior Vice President of Talent Relations, as Silva is retiring at the end of 2016.

Together, the two matchmakers will organize UFC bouts, develop athletes on the roster and scout potential talent, according to a press release.

“I’m excited to have Mick on board working alongside Sean,” UFC president Dana White said in the release. “Mick has become one of the most respected people in the fight game and he’s done a great job in finding and developing talent. Sean has been a tremendous asset to the UFC for a long time, and I look forward to working with Sean and Mick in the years to come.”

Maynard is the former president of Legacy Fighting Championship, a Texas-based mixed martial arts organization that has sent names including Holly Holm, Henry Cejudo and Thomas Almeida to the UFC. Legacy FC recently announced a merger with Resurrection Fighting Alliance, and is now known as Legacy Fighting Alliance.

Maynard has been an MMA promoter for the past 10 years.

“This is an incredible opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to delivering the action-packed, exciting fights that UFC fans have come to expect,” Maynard said in the release.
