Veteran MMA fighter Tyler East was shot dead in an incident involving his girlfriend in New Mexico.

According to New Mexico State Police, 21-fight MMA veteran Tyler East was shot and killed outside his home in Las Lunas on Monday night.

Local news outlet KOB4 reported that police arrived at the scene to find East dead and a woman who had suffered a gunshot wound. They were informed that East had shot his girlfriend, and then dragged her from the home. East was then shot and killed by another person, who is unknown at this time, that had been in the home. The shooter fled the scene before police arrived.

The woman is currently in hospital in stable condition.

East (15-6) is the brother of former UFC heavyweight Cody East. He competed for Bellator, LFC, and was a heavyweight champion in King of the Cage. He last competed in 2016, when he was stopped by strikes inside of two minutes.

Both Tyler and Cody East have been arrested and charged for domestic violence incidents in the past, and Tyler was arrested as recently as last year following a felony charge for stealing $3,000 from his deceased grandfather’s bank account, along with resisting arrest.
