Long time National Hockey League enforcer, Donald Brashear, appears will look to try his hand at mixed martial arts after an eighteen year pro-hockey career.
MMADieHards.com broke the exclusive on Friday, noting that Brashear had signed a one fight contract with the Canadian-based Ringside promotion, and now joins the likes of former NFL players like Herschel Walker, Matt Mitrione, and Brendan Schaub among others who have transitioned into mixed martial arts.
The website reports that Brashear could have the option of fighting as many as three times and could compete as soon as June 4 in Quebec City, Quebec at Ringside 11. Currently he has not applied to the Provincial commission for a license, and may have problems due to a pending assault charge following a Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey (LNAH) game, where Brashear allegedly assaulted a player from another team at the end of a game on March 25.
Brashear, who is 39 years old, played his last NHL game with the New York Rangers in 2010 and was acquired by the Atlanta Thrashers before being played on waivers. Over his career he spent time playing with the Montreal Canadians, the Vancouver Canucks, the Philadelphia Flyers, the Washington Capitals, and lastly the New York Rangers.
