“When you look skill-wise, fighting experience, everything, there’s no doubt that he could do well everywhere.”
Fighting is probably the last thing on Jon Jones’ mind right now, but when the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion puts his legal troubles behind him, Francis Ngannou says ‘Bones’ could be a force to be reckoned with at heavyweight.
Speaking to Submission Radio in a recent interview (h/t Abhinav Kini of Low Kick MMA), ‘The Predator’ complimented Jones on his unique skillset and believes the pound-for-pound No. 1 would have no problem adjusting at heavyweight.
“I think he could do well wherever he goes, wherever he wants to be,” Ngannou said. “I mean, there’s no doubt about it. When you look skill-wise, fighting experience, everything, there’s no doubt that he could do well everywhere.”
“Yes, Jon Jones is a challenge for everyone. Obviously, I will put myself as a winner, but if you don’t take Jon Jones as a challenge, that means something’s wrong with you, that means you’re crazy a little bit, I think.
“I mean, yeah, this guy’s been around and has been beating people up, being champ, being through all types of fights over years and years, and he’s still in the top position. And if you don’t take it as a challenge, that mean you get it wrong, all wrong.”
Jones was arrested by Albuquerque police in the early hours of Thursday morning after failing a sobriety test. The 32-year-old was arrested on one count of aggravated DWI (driving while intoxicated), one count of negligent use of a firearm, one count of possession of an open container, and one count driving with no proof of insurance.
Ngannou was scheduled to fight Jairzinho Rozenstruik in tonight’s UFC on ESPN 8 main event but the event has been postponed due to coronavirus.
