Camacho was scheduled to face Matt Frevola.
One of the hidden gems on the UFC 263 preliminary card was a lightweight bout between Frank Camacho and Matt Frevola, but that fight has since been scrapped after a scary moment for Camacho while driving.
The Guamanian striker was injured in a car crash on Tuesday morning on Interstate 405 in California (per The Guam Daily Post). He was taken to the Los Alamitos Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Details on the crash itself are scarce but Camacho obviously will not compete against Frevola and has since provided an update on his health.
“Thank you very much to everyone who reached out to my team and I, we very much appreciate your support and well wishes,” Camacho wrote on Instagram. “Unfortunately I was in a serious multi-vehicle collision this morning. I’m a little beat up from the accident, and I’m absolutely heartbroken to have to withdraw from my fight Saturday at UFC 263.
“But I’m very grateful to walk away from the accident in one piece, and I know this is just a detour in my fighting career. I’d like to extend my apologies for the inconvenience this accident has brought upon my opponent and the UFC, and my wife Sarah and I would like to sincerely thank everyone for their concern and support at this time.”
According to Cuki Alvarez, Camacho’s coach who was also involved in the accident said on his Instagram Story that Camacho had “confirmed herniation on his C7 and T1 spine.”
Camacho hasn’t fought since he was knocked out by Justin Jaynes almost exactly one year ago. He was scheduled to fight Brok Weaver a couple of months after that defeat but had to withdraw due to a positive COVID-19 test. While it’s a bummer that he won’t be on Saturday’s card, thankfully nothing more serious happened out of this car accident.
As for Frevola, he will take on Terrance McKinney (per MMA Junkie), a 10-3 prospect who’s won his last two fights in LFA in a combined 89 seconds. All of his fights have either seen him win by finish or get finished, so expect a banger between him and Frevola.
