Absolutely none of you could’ve possibly wanted to see this fight again.
One night before Rory MacDonald and Douglas Lima rematch for $1 million and the Bellator welterweight title, there will be another rematch serving as a Bellator main event.
Following an initial report from MMAjunkie, the promotion confirmed that former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir and Roy Nelson are set to meet again, eight years removed from their UFC 130 clash. Mir bested Nelson by unanimous decision in a fairly one-sided fight in their first meeting.
Mir (18-13) has lost four straight, including a KO to Fedor Emelianenko and a TKO defeat to Javy Ayala last December. His most recent win was way back in 2015, when he KO’d Todd Duffee in San Diego. The end of Mir’s UFC career came after he tested positive for the banned substance turinabol (stay away from that kangaroo meat).
Nelson (23-17) is on a three-fight losing streak, including a KO loss to Sergei Kharitonov last October. “Big Country” most recently dropped a decision to Mirko Cro Cop in a rematch of their UFC 137 bout. A unanimous decision over Javy Ayala remains Nelson’s only win inside the Bellator cage.
Bellator 231: Mir vs. Nelson 2 is slated for Friday, October 25th on Paramount Network/DAZN, while Bellator 232: MacDonald vs. Lima 2 will happen on Saturday, October 26th exclusively on DAZN. Both cards will take place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT.
