Frankie Edgar wants to fight Conor McGregor at Madison Square Garden after he beats Jose Aldo at UFC 200.

Even though Frankie Edgar has his hands full with Jose Aldo at UFC 200, the former lightweight champion still has Conor McGregor firmly in his sights.

“The Answer” has been campaigning for a fight with the featherweight champion for over a year, after rattling off wins over several top contenders and earning his place in the top 145-pound rankings. Edgar’s last fight at The Ultimate 22 Finale, which saw him knock out Chad Mendes in the fist round, left no doubt that that the New Jersey-based fighter is deserving of another title shot.

Edgar, who lost to then-champion Jose Aldo at UFC 156, will rematch the Brazilian for the interim featherweight belt on July 9. The 34-year-old expects to avenge his loss to “Scarface” and face McGregor in a title unification bout at the Madison Square Garden Arena for UFC 205.

“I’d love to get a win here in July and then fight McGregor for that real title in the Garden in November,” Edgar told FOXBusiness.com (h/t Jonathan Bradley). “If not McGregor, then I’ll be defending my title in the Garden.”

Conor McGregor was expected to drop back down to the 145-pound division after losing to Nate Diaz in a welterweight tilt at UFC 196, but the promotion announced a Diaz-McGregor rematch — again at welterweight — for the main event of UFC 200.

The blockbuster PPV, which will house both Diaz vs. McGregor II and Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar II, will take place on July 9th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
