Before Derrick Lewis takes on former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos in the main event of UFC Fight Night 146 this Sat. (March 9, 2019), let’s take a look back at one of “Black Beast’s” more impressive wins inside the Octagon.
In February of last year, Lewis found himself staring down Marcin Tybura at UFC Fight Night 126 in what was his first fight after hinting at a retirement from mixed martial arts (MMA) following his loss to Mark Hunt.
Tybura initially proved to be a tough nut to crack, as he took some of Derrick’s big shots in the opening round, even surviving an onslaught of ground-and-pound. Tybura had some shining moments, getting top control on the massive brawler, though he couldn’t do much with it. In round two, Tybura managed to score a couple of takedowns, dominating the entire frame.
Then round three came to pass.
After failing to score a takedown, Derrick muscled Marcin to the ground, only to clip him with a devastating four-punch combo upon getting to his feet. From there it was all she wrote, as “Black Beast” pounced on his foe until the referee put an end to the punishment.
Now, Derrick will look to get back into the win column after failing to dethrone Daniel Cormier from the top of the heavyweight mountain at UFC 230 last year when he faces fellow heavy hitter Junior dos Santos in Wichita, Kansas.
