Gilbert Burns will look to fulfill a lifelong dream this Saturday night (Feb. 13, 2021) when he takes on current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, in the main event of UFC 258 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Before then, let’s roll back the hands of time to see one of Gilbert’s biggest wins during his hot streak that helped him get to the big dance. In March of 2020, “Durinho” found himself staring down fellow Brazilian standout, Demian Maia, in their home country.
Coming into the fight, Burns was on a four fight win streak while Maia had won three straight. It didn’t take long for Burns to earn consecutive win number five thanks to a first-round knockout win he scored over the submission specialist courtesy of a devastating left hook and nasty ground-and-pound.
Shortly thereafter, “Durinho” dominated former champion Tyron Woodley to earn his sixth straight win and shot at “The Nigerian Nightmare,” his former training partner. The win will not only crown him the 170-pound champion, but set him up for bigger paydays and fights in the future.
