Frankie Edgar will look to fulfill his combat dream of winning another division title, as the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight champion of the world will face Featherweight king, Max Holloway, at UFC 240 on July 27, 2019 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Before then, let’s take a trip down memory lane to see one of Frankie’s most dominant performances. Back in 2015, “The Answer” found himself eyeing down wrestling powerhouse, Chad Mendes, at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 22 Finale.
After a feeling out process to begin the fight that saw the two exchange light leg kicks, neither man was able to score a takedown, as many expected would be the main gameplan for both. Content to let the action play out on the feet, the two men eventually got caught in an exchange in the center of the Octagon, with Edgar clipping “Money” with a left hook that dropped him. halfway through the opening frame.
From there, Frankie pounced on his opponent and was able to land two more blows before the referee stepped in to put an end to the fight. The victory earned Frankie another title fight against then-Featherweight king, Jose Aldo. But just like their first fight, “Junior” cruised his way to a unanimous decision win.
After going 3-1 in his last four bouts, Edgar once again was granted the chance to try and claim the 145-pound title, though he’s going to be facing a man who hasn’t lost a fight at Featherweight in six years.
