Amanda Nunes will look to collect her fifth straight Bantamweight title defense when she takes on Germaine de Randamie at UFC 245 on Dec. 14, 2019, which will be Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) last pay-per-view (PPV) event of the year.
Before then, let’s take a trip down memory lane to see Amanda’s last successful defense of her 135-pound strap against none other than former division queen, Holly Holm.
The battle of the two strikers was pegged as the co-headlining act at UFC 239 this past July, serving as co-pilots for Jon Jones’ Light Heavyweight title defense against Thiago Santos. Known for her precise striking thanks to her championship boxing credentials, Holly was confident she was more than capable of standing-and-banging with the UFC women’s champ-champ.
After a fairly-cautious approach from both fighters through the first three minutes, Holly hesitated to commit to her staple front kick to the knee, which opened her up and allowed Nunes to clip he with a perfectly-placed high kick to the face.
From there, “Lioness” pounced on her fallen foe and delivered four more shots before Marc Goddard was forced to step in and put an end to the fight.
The victory gave Amanda her ninth straight, becoming the only person to hold victories over Holm, Cris Cyborg, Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey. Now, Nunes will look for seventh consecutive championship victory when she faces de Randamie in the co-main event of the stacked UFC 245 fight card. Amanda will go in with a bit extra confidence as she already has a win over “Iron Lady” way back in 2013.
