At 43 years of age, Aleksei Oleinik is still going strong in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. He will take part in professional fight number 73 this Sat. night (Aug. 8, 2020) when he faces off against Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC Vegas 6 inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Before then let’s look at a blast from the past to see “The Boa Constrictor” earn an impressive victory via armbar, which has become the norm for the jiu-jitsu wizard since he’s collected 45 wins via submission.
Earlier this year, Oleinik faced off against Maurice Greene at UFC 246 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Right out of the gate, Greene tagged Oleinik with a kick to the knees that folded the longtime veteran. But it didn’t take no more than a minute for Aleksei to take the action down to the mat. To his credit, Green was able to fend off several submission attempts throughout four grueling minutes.
In round two, Greene found some success with his standup attack early on before Aleksei once again took him down to the mat. This time, Greene didn’t have enough defense to stop Oleinik from trapping him an a tight armbar to force the tap.
Now, Aleksei will look to earn the first three-fight win streak inside the Octagon by taking out one of the heaviest hitters in all of MMA. Currently ranked No. 10 on the official UFC rankings, “The Boa Constrictor” can make a huge jump in the Heavyweight division by defeating “Black Beast,” inching him closer to a possible title shot.
