After a week off, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will return to action once again this Saturday night (Feb. 6, 2021) with UFC Vegas 18, which goes down inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The ESPN+-streamed event will feature a Heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Alexander Volkov. Before then, let’s take a stroll down Memory Lane to see one of “The Reem’s” best performances.
In November of 2018, Overeem took on Sergei Pavlovich in Beijing, China. Prior to the bout, “The Demolition Man” had dropped two straight and three of five, putting him on thin ice with the promotion so a win was of the utmost importance.
After a grappling early on, Overeem managed to score a nice takedown, which allowed him to land some strikes from the top. Once he got into it was better position, it was the beginning of the end for Pavlovich after Overeem landed some vicious ground-and-pound to force the stoppage.
That was the beginning of Overeem’s current run which has seen him go 4-1. With a convincing win over Volkov, “The Reem” could jump up a few spots in the rankings, putting him in prime position for a shot at the title.
