The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight division recently lost one of its heaviest hitters after former champ-champ, Daniel Cormier, called it a career. And while that spot will be taken by former Light Heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, the division is seeing the rise of new faces.
Among the most notable one is Augusto Sakai, who is earned a perfect 4-0 record inside the Octagon in a little under two years. Before he made his way to the big show, Sakai first had to prove himself on Dana White’s contender Series. And he did just that by outing on a blistering knockout performance over Marco Conrado.
Indeed, Sakai knocked dominated the big man in round one before putting on the finishing touches with some punishing ground-and-pound in round two.
Now, the Brazilian big man will look to earn the biggest win of his young combat career when he takes on former Strikeforce and DREAM Heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem. The two will headline UFC Vegas 9 this Saturday night (Sept. 5, 2020) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
With a win, Sakai — ranked No. 9 — could make a huge push at a Top 5 spot, putting him in the mix with the best big men on the planet.
