Thiago Santos will look to become the first man to hand Jon Jones a true loss in mixed martial arts (MMA) when he faces “Bones” in the main event of UFC 239, slated to go down inside T-Mobile Arena this Saturday (July 6, 2019) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Known for his knockout power, “Marreta” has left a trail of destruction on his way to top of the 205-pound division. The force behind his punches was evident last December during his fight against Jimi Manuwa at UFC 231.
From the jump, Thiago let his heavy-hands fly, dropping “Poster Boy” twice in the first 15 seconds, first with a right hand and then a left. Even in the clinch Thiago let Jimi know his power wasn’t restricted, as he clipped his foe with a short uppercut that stunned him and had him holding on for dear life. Upon release, Thiago one again dropped the Englishmen with a solid strike.
Even when he was hurt after Manuwa clocked him with his own bombs, Thiago kept pushing forward.
In round two, the two men once again wasted no time in getting the action going, as both connected with some clean strikes. 30 seconds in, however, Thiago stunned Jimi with an uppercut and followed it up with a quick left that dropped “Poster Boy,” forcing the referee to step in and put a stop to the punishment.
Now, “Marreta” will look to add another notch to his knockout belt when he faces the toughest test of his combat career in hopes of winning his first-ever world title in “Sin City.”
