Daniel Cormier will put his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight title on the line for the first time this Saturday night (Nov. 3, 2018) against Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC 230 inside Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y.
Before that, however, let’s take a trip down memory lane to re-live “DC” making history by becoming only the second man ever to hold two different division titles simultaneously.
In the main event of UFC 226 this past July, Cormier stepped into the cage as a 265-pounder for the first time in a long time against Stipe Miocic. Stipe was looking to extend his title defense streak to four, though Cormier had other plans.
After a few minutes of fighting for position, Cormier was able to get the space he needed to do his damage. After dodging and absorbing some decent shots from Miocic, Daniel got the clinch he was looking for in the center of the cage. Upon separation, “DC”was able to sneak a short right hand that dropped the champ. From there, it was all she wrote as Daniel brought the ground-and-pound to put Miocic down for the count.
The champ-champ will have a tough task ahead of him if he wants to retire as champion, as “Black Beast” hits as hard — if not harder — than anyone.
