Michelle Waterson will look to collect consecutive win number four this Saturday night (Oct. 12, 2019) against Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC Fight Night 161 in Tampa, Florida on ESPN+.
Before then, let’s take a look back at one of “Karate Hottie’s” most dominant wins on her current run. In her last outing, Waterson faced Karolina Kowalkiewicz at UFC on ESPN 2 this past March in Philadelphia, PA.
Going into the fight, the two ladies were on drastically different roads, as Karolina was coming off a devastating knockout loss against Jessica Andrade, stumbling down the division ladder a bit further. Michelle, meanwhile, was on a two-fight win streak and seemingly one more win away form a shot at the title.
Once the fight started, Karolina seemed to be the aggressor, with Waterson looking to counter as much as possible. But what really worked for Waterson — aside from her striking — were her judo throws, catching Karolina on a couple of occasions, and scoring a few takedowns, as well.
Dominant on the ground and the feet, Waterson was able to earn the unanimous decision. Unfortunately for Michelle, she wasn’t awarded a title fight, as it ultimately went to Zhang Weili, who knocked out the now-former champion, Jessica Andrade, a few months ago (see it).
That said, “Karate Hottie” should be able to secure her much-desired championship fight if she can score a win over former women’s Strawweight champion, Jedrzejczyk, who is just 1-3 in his last four fights.
