Before Fedor Emelianenko fights Fabio Maldonado on UFC Fight Pass, watch Fedor’s sensational KO win against Andrei Arlovski from way back in 2009.
We’re just one week away from Fedor Emelianenko fighting live on UFC Fight Pass, but before that happens, why don’t we take a trip down memory lane? It was January 24th, 2009, and Fedor was set to fight Andrei Arlovski in the Affliction: Day of Reckoning main event. Fedor won the all-important WAMMA belt against Tim Sylvia in the Affliction: Banned PPV, while Arlovski had scored back-to-back wins over Ben Rothwell and Roy Nelson after he left the UFC.
The scene is set, Tito Ortiz is on commentary (but they cut out the post-fight interview) with Sean Wheelock and Jimmy Smith, and at the 6:24 mark of the video, you can see Donald Trump in attendance. You probably know the story of this fight by now. Arlovski was able to tag Fedor multiple times with fast and well-timed right hands, but then he thought he had Fedor trapped and ready to go for the KO. He left his feet in a conscious state and then returned to the mat in an unconscious state. I’ve long called this the first ever mid-air euthanization. You can watch the video at the top of the page.
Here’s Mike Fagan’s play-by-play of the fight:
Round 1: Right hand from Arlovski looks to stun Emelianenko early. Body shot from Fedor. Backs Arlovski into the corner and clinches up. Arlovski with a trip attempt, but Fedor maintains his balance. Cautious exchanged on the feet. Right hand knocks out Arlovksi! Oh my god! Wow!
Fedor Emelianenko defeats Andrei Arlovski by KO at 3:14 of round 1.
And the Bloody Elbow community’s reaction to the finish.
Fedor will fight Fabio Maldonado in the EFN 50 main event on Friday, June 17th. The card airs exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.
