Care to re-watch Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor? Showtime Sports was kind of enough to post it on YouTube.
It’s been four years since Conor McGregor talked his way into a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. With Logan Paul following in Conor’s footsteps, Showtime Sports was kind enough to refresh our memories.
Mayweather vs. McGregor wasn’t exactly a great display of integrity for either sport. But it was, at least, a fun collision between elite two athletes extremely skilled in their respective sports with a very modest degree of overlap.
It’s still a fun fight to watch. MMA fans seemed to extract the wrong lessons though. McGregor lasted longer than MMA fans expected, and people made a big deal about how McGregor landed more punches than Manny Pacquiao in two fewer rounds. None of this puts into context of quality of punches landed, nor the fact that Mayweather was never known as a big finisher. Until Conor, his last finish was six years prior against Victor Ortiz. And that was as odd a string of circumstances as you’ll get.
Teddy Atlas said it best (and with the best tone). McGregor ‘forced a gourmet chef to be a fast order cook.’ Still, it’s a feather in the cap for Conor who has taken his craft seriously enough to accomplish what he did.
As for Logan Paul, I don’t what to tell you. I talk about it because I have to. What’s your excuse? Stay tuned for our live results tomorrow night as Logan Paul faces off against Floyd Mayweather later tonight (June 6th, 2021). It’s called ‘Bragging Rights’ so you know it’s gonna be awesome.
