Strawweight Claudia Gadelha shared some thoughts about her fight against Alexa Grasso being cancelled.
Formerstrawweight title challenger Claudia Gadelha will have to wait a little longer to have her first UFC fight of 2020. Her UFC 246 opponent, Alexa Grasso, missed weight by a whopping 5.5 pounds at the event’s official weigh-ins, and the Nevada Athletic Commission did not allow the fight to on. This forced Gadelha off the card as well, as it was too late to find a replacement.
On her Instagram page, Gadelha shared her thoughts about coming so close to fight night but not being able to compete. She explained how hard she prepared to take on Grasso and that she would have taken the fight, but was not allowed to by NAC.
“I worked so hard for this and I was so excited to put on a show for you all tomorrow, but unfortunately my fight isn’t gonna happen, because my opponent missed weight by 5.5 pounds. I still wanted the fight because I am a bad bitch, but the Nevada Athletic Commission didn’t allow the fight to happen. A big thanks for my coaches, teammates, family and whole team for the amazing camp. We will run it back,” Gadelha wrote.
Claudia Gadelha (17-4) only stepped into the Octagon once in 2019, where she picked up a unanimous decision win over Randa Markos back in July. Before the victory, the 31-year-old dropped a unanimous decision to fellow strawweight contender Nina Ansaroff.
UFC 246 will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, on January 18. The card is scheduled to be headlined by a welterweight bout between former featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor and seasoned veteran Donald Cerrone.
