Public Service Announcement: Justin Gaethje loathes Conor McGregor.
I’m sure that doesn’t come as breaking news at this point, considering “The Highlight” has been trashing “Notorious” in the MMA media for the past several years. So you can imagine the celebration at Casa de Gaethje when McGregor went down in flames at UFC 257.
“For him to come out and say he wants a title shot next in a rematch with Poirier, or his coach, they are fucking idiots,” Gaethje told ESPN (transcribed by Cole Shelton). “He has been treated special over and over and over and he didn’t capitalize on this opportunity. That event was for him, that event was for him to win. He wants to be Mr. Humble now but you know he would be an asshole if he won that fight. I love seeing a loudmouth get knocked out, there is nothing that makes me happier. Seeing a piece of shit get put down, that was great, I loved it.”
McGregor was being positioned to make another run at the lightweight title, currently held by retired champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, but top contender Dustin Poirier flipped the script in the UFC 257 main event last weekend in Abu Dhabi, winning by way of second-round technical knockout.
“The Diamond” also holds a stoppage victory over Gaethje.
“I saw they moved Dustin ahead of me in the rankings, deservedly so,” Gaethje continued. “He is one, I’m two, Charles (Oliveira) is three, (Michael) Chandler is four. No matter what, I gotta get my revenge with Poirier. I’m going to make it there no matter how I gotta get there. It was an awesome weekend for us lightweights. It really shook up the division and it will really make the UFC matchmakers come together and come up with some ideas. There are a lot of options.”
One of those options is Gaethje vs. McGregor … assuming “Notorious” makes good on this promise.
