Justin Gaethje shuts down the rumors that have been circulating on social media about his retirement.
No, Justin Gaethje isn’t retiring. And yes, he still wants to become champ.
Rumors began circulating on social media earlier this week that the former WSOF lightweight champion was considering retirement following his submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 254, but ‘The Highlight’ says ‘that’s straight BS’.
“SO APPARENTLY JUSTIN GAETHJE IS CONSIDERING RETIREMENT ACCORDING TO ONE OF HIS TRAINING PARTNERS. HE CAN’T GET A FIGHT AND THE RESULT OF HIS LAST FIGHT IS WEIGHING HEAVY ON HIM,” Twitter user ArtofWar posted after Gaethje’s teammate Ryan Charlebois hinted on Instagram that his training partner was thinking about retirement.
Gaethje has been inactive — and peculiarly quiet on social media — since the Khabib fight but the 32-year-old has never had any intention of retiring.

Gaethje is currently without an opponent but it’s teased that the UFC fan favorite will return to the octagon against three-time Bellator lightweight champ Michael Chandler later this year. Gaethje is 4-1 in his last five fights and considered one of the most dangerous men in the lightweight division.
