Is this the end of Ryan Garcia’s boxing career? Or is the young star trying to reframe an incoming drug suspension from the New York commission?
Ryan Garcia has announced his retirement via social media.
The troubled 25 year old boxing star bounced back from a bad loss to Gervonta Davis and beat Devin Haney in a memorable April performance. Despite his erratic behavior leading up to the fight, things were looking good for Garcia … until it was revealed he failed drug tests for ostarine.
Now the NYSAC is preparing to rule on his case, and it’s expected they’ll hand down a suspension to Garcia and turn his fight against Haney into a No Contest. With the hammer about to come down, Ryan made a number of statements on X (formerly Twitter).
I’m officially retired

“Mom has cancer… I’m being sued… My supplements were tainted… Going thru a divorce… Devin asking for my victory to be taken away… I’m getting hit with everything,” he wrote. “Boxing will be alright without me… But sucks I was fun in the game… And it was fun to punch people”
“Y’all may catch me out and about but as far as boxing I don’t know… There is so much corruption I’m over it… I may do acting or singing… I’ll still be training but I’m hurt and I’m done with it and everyone… The sad part is I’m a great boxer… And I entertain and knock people out… I’m sad bc I love boxing… Praying for everyone and I hope everyone has a great life.”
He followed that up with his final decision: “I’m officially retired.”
Devin Haney’s father/trainer Bill Haney reacting to Ryan Garcia claiming he’s now retired from boxing: “In 48 hours Ryan Garcia will be suspended.”

Hopefully the incoming suspension gives Ryan Garcia some time to seek the help he needs for his mental health and drinking problems. We’ve got a lot of sympathy for the kid given he was essentially allowed to limp through a mental breakdown so everyone could still make money off the Haney fight.
As for the Haneys, they’re not feeling as charitable towards Garcia. Which is fair because he missed weight by several pounds and tested positive for a performance enhancing drug. After losing to Garcia, Devin was forced into a mandatory defense with a sub-$3 million purse, which tells you how badly the defeat has affected his earning power.
“You’re running out of time,” Devin Haney’s father Bill said in an Instagram video. “In 48 hours, your boy Ryan Garcia will be suspended. And networks, promoters, and everybody that’s been trying to protect him, you’re going to go down with the ship.”
