Fool me once, shame on New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC). Fool me twice? Fruit basket to coach Rafael Cordeiro, who appeared to anchor Kelvin Gastelum as he tipped the scale on Friday morning in “The Empire State.”

Gastelum (15-4) competes against fellow ex-welterweight, Darren Till (17-2-1), in the UFC 244 pay-per-view (PPV) co-main event tomorrow night (Sat., Nov. 2, 2019) inside Madison Square Garden in New York City.

MMA Junkie verified a photo from British journalist Chisanga Malata did, in fact, show Gastelum making contact while NYSAC registered his weight, which for the record, was 184 pounds, two pounds shy of the maximum limit for non-title fights.

Behind the towel, no less.

It should be noted that Gastelum has a history of struggling on the scale.

The possibility exists that Gastelum gained no benefit from the shoulder roll, but after watching former light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier pull a fast one on NYSAC back in April 2017 (see those shenanigans here), it’s understandable why some folks are crying foul.

Till, as of this writing, isn’t one of them.
