UFC Vegas 22 loses its co-main event on fight day.

Yet another fight has been scratched from UFC Vegas 22.

The co-main event between lightweight Gregor Gillespie and Brad Riddell has been postponed to a later date. UFC officials cited COVID-19 protocols as the reason for the fight’s removal from this event. Gillespie has been out of action since a KO loss to Kevin Lee back in 2019, so this is no doubt a bummer for him that he has to wait a bit longer to make his return to the Octagon.

If you’re keeping score this is the fourth fight just this week to be pulled from Saturday’s lineup. Johnny Eduardo vs. Anthony Birchak was cancelled due to visa issues for Eduardo, Julija Stoliarenko’s fainting at the weigh-ins prompted the Julia Avila fight to be called off, and now we have Gillespie vs. Riddell gone. We also lost Tai Tuivasa vs. Don’Tale Mayes but at least Harry Hunsucker was able to replace Mayes on short notice.

So at the moment there are just ten fights slated for UFC Vegas 22. Honestly who knows what the new co-main event is? The bout order says Chayenne Buys vs. Montserrat Ruiz was the fight preceding Gillespie vs. Riddell, so perhaps that will get bumped up to co-main. What we do know is that Derek Brunson vs. Kevin Holland is still the main event… we hope. There are several hours left before the main card kicks off.

Update: It’ll be Song Kenan vs. Max Griffin as the new co-main.
