Jon Jones snapped Glover Teixeira’s 20-fight win streak at UFC 172, and the Brazilian is gunning for a rematch.
Teixeira, who avoided surgery for a torn labrum in his right shoulder after his title fight with Jones, wants to get back in action around October or November, and he wants to face a fellow top light heavyweight contender.
“I hope that my return to the UFC happens around October and November,” Teixeira said in a release. “I don’t care who the opponent is, provided that he’s in the top 5 of my division.”
Teixeira is currently ranked No. 4 in the 205-pound rankings, and he expects to return to training in July.
“My recovery is really well. I’m getting better and I hope to get back to training next month,” he said. “I’m already doing a good job of physiotherapy and strengthening the shoulder.”
With a 5-1 record under the UFC banner, Teixeira wants another shot at the gold after a couple more wins.
“I want to do two more fights to prove that I’m well,” he said. “This is my first plan to fight for the title again.”
