Khabib Nurmagomedov shares his thoughts on the recently concluded trilogy between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor.
The return of vintage Conor McGregor in the final weeks of fight week amped up the heat with Dustin Poirier, to say the least. “The Notorious” dragged Dustin’s wife Jolie into the trash-talk, and some of the remarks took a crude turn.
Poirier ended up winning the trilogy after “The Notorious” injured his leg at the end of the first round. It was a delight to see for many observers, including retired former UFC 155-pound king Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“The Eagle” (or someone from his team) tweeted this out, post-fight.
Good always defeats evil.
Very happy for @DustinPoirier I hope you will get the belt end of the year— khabib nurmagomedov (@TeamKhabib) July 11, 2021
Khabib himself was on the receiving end of personal attacks from McGregor during the lead-up of their UFC 229 title fight in 2018. He did submit the Irishman in the fourth round, but the animosity remained on an all-time high even after the fight was called to a halt.
McGregor is now on a two-fight skid as he drops to a record of 22-6. His last win at lightweight was when he ascended to champ-champ status against Eddie Alvarez in 2016.
