A rundown of the biggest headlines and news from the world of competitive grappling.
Polaris 10 has just got a little bit more exciting for MMA fans.
While the main event features UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber, rumours have been circulating about other MMA fighters appearing on the card over the last few weeks. The opening bout of the main card has been announced and it’s a fun one: Brad Pickett will face off against JMMA legend Caol Uno (h/t GrapplingInsider.com)
Pickett holds notable MMA wins over Neil Seery and Demetrious Johnson. While retired from MMA, Pickett has still competed in numerous other sports including bare knuckle boxing and combat jiu jitsu.
Caol Uno is one of Japanese MMA’s most beloved MMA fighters, but he also has a solid grappling background. Uno is an ADCC silver medalist and will be looking to rebound from a loss in his last Polaris appearance.
GRAPPLING STORIES
Gracie Charged Ralph Gracie has been charged with felony assault for his unprovoked attack on Flavio Almeida at the Nogi World Championships. Almeida required surgery after Gracie landed a clean elbow him in an assault that marred one of the most prestigious BJJ events of the year.
Garry Tonon is set for the biggest test of his MMA career to date when he faces Yoshiki Nakahara on May 17 at ONE Championship: Enter the Dragon. Nakahara is by far the most skilled opponent Tonon has faced and this fight will likely be his last until after ADCC in September.
Keenan Cornelius has left ATOS following a disagreement with the team’s management which includes Andre Galvao. It’s unclear where Keenan will go next, but as ADCC is fast approaching, it is likely that he’ll remain a ronin and manage his own training until the biggest nogi competition in the world is over.
