Former two-division champion, Conor McGregor, was booked to make his Octagon return atop the UFC 303 pay-per-view (PPV) event on June 29 in Las Vegas, paired off with fellow Ultimate Fighter coach and former Bellator MMA titleholder, Michael Chandler.
But the promotion hastily canceled their kickoff press conference on Monday with no explanation. In the two days that followed, rumors of a potential injury to McGregor began surfacing online, while “Iron” packed his bags and returned home to Nashville.
So what the heck is going on with the UFC 303 headliner?
According to a new report from veteran MMA reporter Ariel Helwani, there’s “great positivity” the McGregor fight stays together, reflecting a significant shift from the pessimism on Monday morning — though Helwani admits the “ship has sailed” on the Dublin press conference.
“As of right this second, I think they fight on June 29,” Helwani said.
At the same time, he also noted the situation was “fluid” with decisions being made on a day-to-day basis. Simply put, there’s not much we can do at this stage except trust the UFC 303 event will move forward with McGregor on top (until the promotion says otherwise).
Stay tuned.
