UFC 199 has some more fights added to its lineup, including the return of featherweight prospect Brian Ortega, plus the 115 lbs debut of Jessica Andrade.
The UFC has a pair of fight announcements for its June 4th pay-per-view at The Forum in Inglewood, California. A featherweight bout between veteran Clay Guida and submission specialist Brian Ortega was announced on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight. Also on tap is Jessica Penne versus Jessica Andrade, who is making her debut in the women’s strawweight division. Brian Martin of the LA Daily News reported the matchup on Thursday.
Guida (32-16) spent the bulk of his career at 155 lbs, but made the drop to 145 lbs in 2013. Results have been mixed thus far for “The Carpenter,” who is coming off a 39 second guillotine choke defeat vs. Thiago Tavares last November. Guida has been finished in all 3 of his featherweight losses, but has gone the distance in all 3 of his featherweight wins. Ortega (10-0, 1 NC) defeated Tavares in a Fight of the Year contender, just a few months prior to Guida’s loss to the Brazilian. The 25-year-old submission ace stopped Tavares in the 3rd round with punches, then put away Diego Brandao with a 3rd round triangle choke at UFC 195.
Penne (12-3) was part of season 20 of The Ultimate Fighter, which introduced the women’s strawweight division to the UFC. She’s coming off a lopsided TKO loss to reigning champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk in last June’s UFC Berlin main event. The former Invicta FC atomweight champion reached the semifinals of TUF 20 before losing to Carla Esparza. Andrade (13-5) debuted back in 2013 in a short-notice fight against Liz Carmouche, which she lost by TKO. The Brazilian rattled off three straight victories before losing by submission to Marion Reneau in February 2015. After beating Sarah Moras in July, Andrade lost a rematch to Raquel Pennington by rear-naked choke at UFC 191 in September.
UFC 199 is headlined by Luke Rockhold’s first middleweight title defense, an immediate rematch vs. Chris Weidman. The co-main event is a rubber match between bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and longtime rival Urijah Faber.
