As noted in the police report, a half-empty bottle of Recuerdo 750ml was found inside Jon Jones’ vehicle during his DWI arrest.
As he’d done a few times in the past, Jon Jones got himself in trouble with the law once again. The current UFC light heavyweight champion was arrested early Thursday morning in Albuquerque, on multiple charges including aggravated DWI and negligent use of firearms.
As more details came out, police officers noted that among those found in Jones’ vehicle were a loaded handgun, and a partially empty bottle of “Recuerdo 750ml.”
El Recuerdo Mezcal is the brand being endorsed by none other than “BMF” champion Jorge Masvidal.
“Gamebred” made his product launch in mid-January, ahead of UFC 246. Even at it’s infancy, Masvidal is already seeing his brand gain recognition like how Conor McGregor did with his Proper Twelve whiskey. This unfortunate incident may have just added some free marketing to his product as well.
“‘Win frequently, drink occassionally,’ is our motto. It’s my motto, especially,” Masvidal said during his press conference for the product.
The UFC already released a statement on the matter, saying that the company is still in the process of “gathering additional information.”
Jones has had several run-ins with the law, but the only one that had major repercussions in his career was in 2015 during a hit-and-run incident involving a pregnant woman. “Bones” was stripped of the 205-pound title and was slapped with an indefinite suspension.
