According to ESPN, a highly-intriguing Heavyweight showdown between heavy hitters Alexander Volkov and Walt Harris has been added to the planned UFC 254 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Oct. 24, 2020.
A location has yet-to-be determined for the card.
Both men are looking to get back in the win column after suffering defeats in their previous respective outings. Volkov was last seen losing to Curtis Blaydes last month at UFC on ESPN 11 via unanimous decision after “Drago” couldn’t find an answer to “Razor’s” wrestling. The loss was Volkov’s second in three fights.
As for Harris, his last outing inside the Octagon didn’t bode so well for him either, as the power-punching big man was knocked out by Alistair Overeem at UFC on ESPN 8 in May, snapping his three-fight win streak. The bout was Walt’s first since the death of his daughter.
Prior to the defeat, Walt was steadily climbing the heavyweight ladder after scoring big wins over Aleksei Oleinik, Sergey Spivak and Daniel Spitz. He did get a win over Andrei Arlovski during that run, but it was eventually overturned to a no contest (NC) after Harris failed a USADA-administered drug test. Both big men need a win badly here, so who’s your early favorite to pick up the “W.”
UFC 254 is expected to feature the return of Khabib Nurmagomedov as he defends his Lightweight title against Justin Gaethje.
