Former Strikeforce and BKFC fighter Lumumba Sayers Sr., who previously battled prominent combat sports stars like Anthony Smith, Derek Brunson and Scott Smith, among others, was arrested and charged with murder after an apparent revenge killing last weekend at Pioneer Park in Commerce City, Colorado. ABC affiliate Denver7 first reported the tragic turn of events on Monday.

Sayers Sr. is accused of gunning down Malcolm Watson, 28, who was connected to last year’s shooting death of Sayers son, Lumumba Sayers Jr., a 2-0 featherweight with a pair of appearances for Colorado Combat Club in Pueblo.

Sayers Jr., who was just 24 at the time of his death, was also an avid anti-gun activist known for creating the nonprofit organization Glovez Up, Gunz Down to promote non-violence in his local community.

Sayers Sr., 46, arrived at a children’s birthday party at the Pioneer Park waterpark and shot Watson in the head “at close range,” according to a witness statement in the police affidavit. Watson was pronounced dead at the scene and Sayers Sr. was later taken into custody where he’s being held on $1 million bond pending a court hearing on Thursday for first-degree murder and felony menacing charges.
