Boy did Neil Magny put on a show in his UFC Fight Night 85 co-main event last night (Sat., March 19, 2016) opposite the returning juggernaut Hector Lombard inside Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Australia.
Check out the full co-main event recap here.
Magny stormed into the Top 10 of the official Welterweight rankings with a 9-1 record over the last two years and took on “Lightning,” who was looking to distance himself from a failed drug test in early 2015. But what started out as a feel-good return on the part of the Cuban-Australian combatant, quickly turned out to be a nightmare in the making.
After he rocked Elevation Fight Team’s Magny early, Lombard found himself lacking the energy he needed to stay on the feet. The 38-year-old pursued the finish, but Magny was able to intelligently defend himself.
It was actually quite impressive how he was able to keep his wits about him.
Then, the tides turned in round two, which is when Magny nearly finished the fight with a submission off of his back, as well as punishing ground and pound that seemed to go on forever.
When the final frame came, he wasn’t about to let the fight go to the judges as he promptly ended the American Top Team (ATT) representative’s night early with strikes on the ground.
Magny has now won three straight inside the Octagon, while Lombard falls to a paltry 3-3-1 NC.
