Jalin Turner was on the cusp of another big finish win at UFC 300 last month (April 13, 2024). Unfortunately for the “Tarantula,” he let Renato “Moicano” Carneiro off the hook.

Turner and Moicano helped set the tempo for the historic night, battling it out in the fourth fight of the night. Turner, 29, started hot and nearly put Moicano away with a walk-off knockout at the end of round one. Instead of following up to pursue the finish, Turner essentially allowed Moicano to survive as the referee didn’t stop the action.

Moicano recovered between rounds and found a groove in round two when he took Turner to the ground and battered Turner en route to a technical knockout victory (watch highlights). In his fight before the Moicano setback, Turner scored one of the latest stoppages in recent memory against Bobby Green in the UFC Austin co-main event (watch highlights). Turner has now revealed that the vicious nature and backlash of the Green stoppage was why he held off against Moicano.

“My conscious kind of kicked in a little bit like mid-fight,” Turner said on JAXXON PODCAST. “People are tagging me in the interview Bobby did, and all this stuff and what he said. I was already thinking about that, the backlash I got from that. I was like dang. My conscious really kicked in in the fight. Even before the fight, I didn’t even fully get to that, ‘Oh, I gotta kill this dude’ instinct. I was just like, ‘Ah, it’s a fight.’ Just go perform, and yeah, that’s what happened.”

Turner is 1-3 in his last four outings (14-8 overall) after the Moicano loss. Green rebounded that same night with a win over Jim Miller via unanimous decision.
