Henry Cejudo clarifies some injury rumors floating around ahead of his UFC 238 headliner fight against Marlon Moraes this wekeend.
Last-minute injuries leading to fight cancellations are pretty common in mixed martial arts, particularly in the UFC. Flyweight champion Henry Cejudo was the subject of an injury rumor, after he failed to do an open workout on Wednesday.
Hearing info from a source who says he was in the #ufc workout room last night and #HenryCejudo may have been injured. Source says there was a loud scream like he tore something, followed by a pause, and then another loud yell. Hoping to verify here shortly. #ufc238

“The Messenger” immediately addressed these rumors during a media scrum at the Chicago Theatre afterwards, by first denying such talks outright. He then followed it up with an admission of a “slight knee bump” which he says caused him some pain.
“No, no – absolutely not,” Cejudo said (via MMA Junkie). “I’m good, I’m strong, I’m healthy. I don’t know where that came from.
“I did have a little bump on my knee, my right knee. I hit the edge of the damn corner. It hurt. That’s it.”
Cejudo is gunning for the vacant bantamweight title, along with the possibility of becoming the fourth “champ-champ” in the UFC. So before leaving the interview, he made sure to remind everyone of his accomplishments, as well as his plans for the weekend.
“By the way, I have a gold medal and a belt, and I’m going to add another belt,” he said. “Later, haters.”
UFC 238 takes place this Saturday, June 8th in Chicago, Illinois. It will be co-headlined by a women’s flyweight title fight between champion Valentina Shevchenko and Jessica Eye. Also part of the card is a lightweight fight between Donald Cerrone and Tony Ferguson.
