After his sterling performance against Chris Cariaso at UFC 185, undefeated flyweight contender Henry Cejudo made clear where he’d like to fight next: Mexico City.
The 2008 Olympic wrestling gold medalist, who trains in Arizona, is of Mexican heritage, and wants to be a part of UFC 188 in Mexico City.
“I would love to fight in Mexico City,” Cejudo said at the UFC 185 post-fight press conference. “I’m fluent in Spanish. My parents are from Mexico City.”
Cejudo’s wish will be granted. MMAFighting.com‘s Ariel Helwani reported on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight that Cejudo has been booked on the June 13 event.
Sources indicate that Milwaukee’s Chico Camus has been targeted as Cejudo’s opponent on the card. While the matchup has not yet been formalized, both have been approached by the UFC and both have expressed interest in the fight.
Camus (15-4-1) had a mixed record as a bantamweight in the UFC. He dropped to flyweight last year and was victorious in his debut, as he scored a split decision over Brad Pickett on Nov. 22 in Austin.
Cejudo (8-0) is 2-0 in the UFC. After having to pull out of a UFC 177 fight with Scott Jorgensen due to a weight cut gone bad, Cejudo cruised to a bantamweight victory over Dustin Kimura in December. He then dropped back to 125 pounds and made it look easy in a decision over Cariaso.
