There were several fights that ended at (or after) the buzzer at Bellator 265 (including this one), but perhaps none more impressive than Cheick Kongo’s come from behind win over Sergei Kharitonov in the main event of the evening.
In the opening round, Kharitonov was the aggressor, going after the former UFC veteran and even dropping him with a stiff jab. In round two, Kharitonov was once against stalking the towering Frenchman before the big man started to find his groove toward the end of the round.
With a little over 10 seconds remaining in the second round, Kong was able to latch on a rear-naked choke. While Kharitonov tried his hardest to hand on until time expired, he simply couldn’t ultimately tapping with one second remaining in the fight.
Kongo — ranked No. 3 in the Bellator MMA Heavyweight division, is now 9-1-1 in his last 10 fights for the Viacom-owned promotion, and is making a case for another shot at the division strap. Kharitonov, meanwhile, loses is second bout in last four outings and snaps his two fight win streak.
