Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight champion Vadim Nemkov and top former champion, Phil Davis, ran it back in the main event of Bellator 257 last night (Fri., Jan 16) in Uncasville, Conn. And once again, Nemkov came out on top, this time defeating “Mr. Wonderful” via unanimous decision.
For five rounds, Nemkov utilized his jab very well and kept Davis at bay throughout the fight. More importantly, however, were the three takedowns Nemkov landed while Davis was unable to take down the Russian big man. When it was all said and done, Davis simply didn’t pop off enough offense while Nemkov controlled the pace pf the fight to hold on to his 205-pound title.
Nemkov improves to 5-0 inside the Bellator cage and extends his win streak to seven. As for Davis, he is now out of the tournament after having his four fight win streak snapped by reigning champion.
Now, Nemkov moves on in the Light Heavyweight Grand Prix and will face the winner of the final opening round matchup between Anthony Johnson and Yoel Romero, which will go down at Bellator 258 on May 7.
