It was another fast and furious performance from Senegalese wrestling champion Oumar “Reug Reug” Kane at ONE on TNT 1.
The UFC has three African champions, but ONE Championship is hoping they have ‘the future of African MMA’ in Omar “Reug Reug” Kane.
Kane faced off against last minute replacement Patrick Schmid Wednesday night at ONE on TNT 1 and like “Reug Reug’s” other fights, things didn’t last too long. After blitzing Schmit early on the feet, Kane dragged his opponent to the ground and pounded him out for a first round TKO. Official time of the stoppage: 1:49.
The win puts the Senegalese wrestling champion at 3-0 in MMA, but it’s hard to read too much into this latest quick win. Kane’s original opponent Medhi Barghi (4-3) fell out earlier this week due to COVID-19 protocols. Patrick Schmid also ended up without an opponent, so they matched the two together. The only issue? Schmid was originally supposed to participate in a kickboxing bout. He was 0-0 coming into this fight. Well, 0-1 now.

That didn’t stop “Reug Reug” from calling out the ONE heavyweight champion, former UFC fighter Brandon Vera. Vera is 4-1 in ONE Championship and was most recently rebuffed in his attempt to add the light heavyweight belt to his name.
We imagine ONE will take their time building “Reug Reug” up, which is absolutely okay with us.
